Allen is a pianist, musician, composer, arranger, host, and educator who wants to help his audiences take a journey via the music they know and love.
Allen started his studies in the University of Miami classical piano program, but he soon switched to jazz piano.
Later, Allen worked in church music full-time and built a reputation as a top notch gospel musician.
Once reintroduced to the South Florida music scene, he quickly became a sought after sideman with artists of all types and styles.
He was a performer on Mary Alessi’s album “Pressing On”, Leon “Foster” Thomas’ jazz project “Brand New Mischief”, and several other projects as a session musician.
Artists that Allen has accompanied include Miki Howard, Betty Wright, Raheem Devaughn, Slide Hampton, Jaguar Wright, Mike Phillips, Rhonda Thomas, Martha Munizzi, Anthony David, Algebra Blessett, Chantae Cann and many others. He has led bands on the Jazz in The Gardens stage several times and was a featured performer at the Miami Jazz Cooperative’s “Piano Summit” in 2020.
His trio project, the jazz fusion band “Unclazzified”, released an EP of original music, and the trio performed at the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 2015.
Allen has been married to his wife Lia for over 20 years, and they have 3 children.
He is currently musical director at Metro Life Church in Doral, FL, is actively writing, performing and teaching in South Florida. He has recently published his first book, “God and Gigs: Succeed as a Musician without Sacrificing your Faith”, a guide for Christian musicians working in the mainstream music industry.
